So as you probably know, the Uni semester has started up again. Quite a lot has gone down since I decided to change my major, but I think I'm handling it quite well. I'm staying on top of most things and thankfully, I'm actually enjoying what I'm learning. Having said that, this first month has been pretty intense, so when I realised this week would be the study break, I decided that it might be a good idea to slip in a mini holiday before my workload really piles up. A while ago I made a post about a weekend I spent down in the adorable little town of Bunbury, so when my friend Dani offered to have me for a few days, I was really excited.
I arrived on Tuesday night and went to bed pretty much straight away, it was a long trip and we had to get up early the next morning. On Wednesday we left the house jut after 8am and got a lift with Dani's mum into town. Once we got there, we went down to a small place called Cafe 140 for breakfast. Everything in this town is so cute! The cafe even had little wood and rope swings in there. It's super cozy and they do the best poached eggs.
(potato chips come with breakfast??)
Once breakfast was done, we had a little walk around before we had to open up shop. Dani owns an alternative store called D-Moniq where she works 6 days a week. The plan was for me to kind of adventure around town and use the store as a home base, but to be honest, the store has such a good vibe that I ended up just chilling in there most of the time. I love surrounding myself with pretty things and there's so much to look at in there. She has everything from pinup dresses to piercing jewellery to high end makeup to cute little cat shoes.
I came down to Bunbury to have a bit of a break, but also to have a calm place to do my work. I'm not sure if I've mentioned it before, but my home environment really isn't the most peaceful place to get things done. So for the first half of the day, I sat behind the counter working on my journalism piece while Dani cleaned the cabinets. I got to help too, though! I really want a job where I can look how ever I want. Not that I plan on quitting my regular job any time soon, but some work experience in this kind of place couldn't hurt. I helped arrange all the tattoo chokers and made the display really pretty, which I was proud of.
After I was satisfied with the amount of homework I had gotten done and Dani had more or less finished organising the cabinets, we took a lunch break. Along with Cafe 140, there is a place that Dani always rants to me about called Motts, which does really good Malaysian food. I love Malaysian food, so when I heard the news that they would be closing down soon, I knew I had to go as soon as I had the chance. The place is really cute and the smell of currie hits you as soon as you walk in the door. The staff there are really nice, too. We got the beef (currie? I can't remember) and bubble tea. They had some flavours that you can't get in the city, so I got hazelnut milk tea with coffee jelly. It tasted amazing, oh my god. 10/10, I need all you puddings to try this combination. The food got to us really fast, too and tasted really good. Pretty much restaurant quality food for a cafe price. After we felt sufficiently fat, we went back to the store.
I had planned to go on a bit of an adventure after I let my food baby settle down, but then Dani asked me if she could dress me up and take photos. I'm always a slut for pretty clothes and photo opportunities, so I was down. I tried on so many clothes but thanks to my stupid face, I didn't really like many of the photos. It was really fun to dress up though! And now I have a whole bunch of other things on my list of 'things I really really want but could never afford'. During our mini photo shoot, one of Dani's friends came into the store to hang out. Turns out, we're both tumblr trash and actually got along really well. There's not many people I click with this fast, so that made me fell happy.
Once it got to evening time, we started thinking about dinner. A new Mexican place had just opened a few minutes down the road, so Dani called up the squad that I met last time I was down here and we all had Mexican for dinner! It was a bit pricy, but really good. I had a spicy lamb burrito and ooooooh my god, I want to eat nothing but this for the rest of my life.
♡ ♡ ♡
Day two was unfortunately my final day. I had originally planned to stay until Friday, but I had plans to go to the city that afternoon and found out I could only catch a ride at night time, so I had to cut the trip short and leave Thursday night.
We did breakfast at Cafe 140 again, God, it's going to be hard going back to porridge for breakfast every day after their amazing food. Breakfast dates are going to have to be a thing for me now, it's just too good.
I was Dani's assistant today and helped organise the order from Iron Fist for next year. So many cute clothes.. 2016 is not going to be a good time for my wallet. If you find yourself in Bunbury at around March next year, have a look in the store, there's going to be a lot of cute shit.
Dani's friend Sarah showed up a while later so we could all go on a lunch date together. We went to a cute little place called Sushi Master and I got my first ever bento box! So cute. I've only met Sarah once before, so it was a little awkward at first, I didn't really have anything to say, so I just kind of stayed in my lane and let the other two do most of the talking while I ate. Having said that, even if I did have things to say, I like food way more than talking so it probably would have been a similar situation~
We went back to the shop for a bit and worked on the order some more until Dani gave me her card and asked me to go on a bubble tea run. I was literally just thinking of bubble tea about 60 seconds before that, and then I found out that Sarah had never tried bubble tea before, so I mean, I didn't really have a choice. A life without bubble tea is no life at all.
So me and Sarah went for a walk. Still a little awkward, but I educated her on the magic of bubble tea and I think it went quite well. I got free bubble tea, she is in love with it, everything worked out. After a few more shenanigans involving a nipple piercing (more work experience yay), it was dark and probably time for dinner. Sarah drove us to.. I don't live here, I don't know where the fuck we went, but we ended up at a pizza place called Crust and had kimchi pizza. Everything I have eaten on this trip has been amazing, and kimchi on a freaking pizza was no exception. We decided to end things with a trip to Baskins where I finally got to try green tea ice cream. We don't have it at my store, and honestly I don't know why the fuck not, it's actual heaven. Green tea and coconut ice cream are the ultimate dream team.
(cute lil things around town, including myself, bc i am a cute lil thing)
After ice cream, we all piled into Sarahs car and drove up to Mandurah where my partner picked me up. I said goodbye to Dani and Sarah and just like that, my holiday was over.
I had a really nice trip, even if it was a little short, it was enough to get me out of stress city for a little bit. I'm really thankful to Dani for taking such good care of me and actually wanting to put up with me for 48 hours straight. Everyone was super nice to me while I was there and I was spoiled so much with food and cute things, this was the perfect way to spend my break and I can't wait to visit again. Next time I come down, it wont be winter, so I'll probably have more of a drive to actually go outside of the store and do some looking around.
I'll be back, Bunbury. Don't forget me!
