Just a few weeks ago, I happened to see an advertisement for what was called the Perth Food Truck Rumble. Basically, 30 different food trucks gather in the cultural centre of Perth to create an event filled with good food and good times. I had organised to go with a group of friends, but everyone seemed to bail at the last minute. I was worried because I didn't want to go to this thing alone, but luckily I got in contact with two friends I hadn't seen in a while and everything became back on track.
I think that maybe my primary friend group bailing was for the better, because the train ride up to the city gave us a chance to catch up and it was really refreshing to be around different people.
We walked together to the cultural centre and holy hell I was not disappointed. For a foodie like me, it was like a dream come true. Everywhere I turned, there were different kinds of food from different parts of the world just waiting for me to have at it. It was a bit overwhelming, to be honest; I didn't know what to do first, especially since I knew there was no realistic way I could try everything. I tried to get a few photos of the place, but there were way too many people, so I gave up and decided just to get right down to business.
The first stop we made was a Mexican truck where my friend Connor got himself a burrito (what a basic). While he was waiting, I decided to wander off and find a truck I had seen on the event page: The Wicked Chilli. I'm a big chilli lover, so I got myself a helping of Chilli Con Carne with corn chips, jalapeños and salsa. Being so excited about having chilli made me forget a primary ingredient of this dish is beans and tomato, which I absolutely hate. So even though the food was amazing, I spent too much time picking around the pieces I didn't want. Aside from that, 10/10 chilli and I think this might inspire me to go to Mexican restaurants more often rather than the Asian places I usually frequent.

For round two, Callum bought us some chicken wings for us to share from Saigon Soul Food. They are by far the weirdest wings I have ever had the pleasure of trying. Callum convinced me to take a whiff and it felt like I was actually snorting crystallised chilli powder, I could feel it in my head. Strange smell aside, they tasted amazing; cooked to perfection, and a decent amount of meat on the bones, too! Very plump and juicy, the line up was really worth the wait.
After the wings, we ventured back to the strange ice cream truck. I decided to go for the green tea and rose chocolate ice cream. The weird combination had me uncertain, but the first bite was amazing! It tasted like a perfect cup of tea made in a vintage tea pot. I could clearly taste each element of the ice cream and I feel the need to find this flavour again some day; if any of you puddings come across Chicho Gelato, I highly recommend you give them a chance.
We walked around with our ice cream for a bit and decided to go check out the break dancing competition that was apparently going on, but there were so many people there, we couldn't really see much. But there were hot donuts so I guess it wasn't all bad~
We'd pretty much seen everything after that, but there was still one last truck that I couldn't leave without visiting: Miam Miam a Bite of France. Ever since my first crepe that I tried on Valentines Day, I've been waiting till the day I could have another. This line was probably the slowest one we'd been in all day, but it was worth it. I got a cinnamon and sugar crepe with banana and fluffy whipped cream. We went and sat down on a little wooden platform in the middle of a pond and decided what we were going to do with the rest of our day while I ate my crepe. It was really nice~
After that, we felt like we'd gotten all we could out of the Rumble, our tummies were full and we'd seen everything we'd come to see. I would have liked to take a few more photos, but it was only getting more and more crowded, so we decided to head into the city and do some shopping. Although it wasn't the kind of shopping I'm used to. Majority rules and unfortunately the majority in our little group was two guys who are simultaneously into nerd culture and stereotypically manly stuff, neither of which interest me.
The food at the Rumble had turned out to be surprisingly cheap, so I had some money left over and my need for new clothes was on that like the speed of light squared on matter to make energy (hella). After what felt like forever, I finally convinced the guys to go clothes shopping with me. I hadn't complained once during their quest for new gaming cards and beef jerky, so I felt like I deserved at least 30 minutes of their time. After a couple of complaints about everything looking the same, they stopped complaining and even started trying to help me find what I was after. That was cute. Did you puddings know there are two Cheep stores in the city? Maybe more, I don't know. All I know is I found another one tucked away in the Plaza and it had all new stuff which almost gave me a heart attack.
It soon began to get dangerously close to 3 o'clock, which meant I had to leave to be able to get to work on time, so we decided to call it a day there. Everything turned out well and I'm so happy that the guys were able to come with me, it was a really nice day and I don't think it would have been this nice if it weren't for the refreshing change of company. I hope the Rumble comes back next year so I can try the things I missed out on this time around and maybe even have a bigger group so we can all try more food than we could alone because sharing is caring.
And caring is also letting me fuel my shopping addiction afterwards ~ ♡
